"Chillski" of The Almighy Deadly Venoms | 3/09/2003 | Mendez
For about the last decade the Miami Bboy and dance scene has been on fire. Original elder cats from the early 80's have brought there old school antics of burning the competition back into the 90's and the new millenium.
One cat who stands out is none other than Chillski of The Almighty Deadly Venoms.
Ive witnessed this brother's dedication and persistence on a daily basis: countless battles, being prez of the Miami Zulu Nation Chapter, teaching dance and martial arts classes . What this warrior is to the dance is what key be to lock. So sit back and enjoy while the poisonous one talks about all his Madclout that came along with being a Real BBOY.

What year did you first start dancing?
I started dancing around 1982. 1st i started toprockin' & breakin' (or "goin' off) then i got into electric boogie (or poppin') & around 83 or early 84 I started to learn Brooklyn uprock/jailhouse-rockin' (full-contact uprock).

Who or what were your influences?
My electric boogie influence comes directly from Normski,Mr Wave,Boogaloo  Shrimp,Poppin Taco,&  Reversal (Street Masters,Miami). Uprock influences: Juice (TC5 while he was down in Miami), my boy Carlos who introduced me to uprockin', Zeec(TNSB), and Omar.

Who were your arch rivals?
Rivals..
Junior from North Miami,Cheeks,Mr Pop,Ivan,Spider,Cool Roc, Julian, Chino, CeeJay, Danny V, AJ Pop, Tron(later known as Tricks (TNSB) who also became my partner in graff), etc, etc.—too many names to remember (lol).

What was the scene like in your area?
Always funky fresh...every friday we had our little after school dances at my school Citrus Grove junior high where we used to get crazy loose, also the park jams at Grapeland park on saturdays, Video Powerhouse, Castle Park (later known as Malibu Grand Prix). and of course The Beat Club, the hottest spot for all the bboys and fly girls back in the day.

What music did you dance to?
At that time we used to dance to Hip Hop, Electro Funk & the very early type of Freestyle.Groups like the Crash Crew, Fearless 4, CDlll, Soul Sonic Force, Planet Patrol, Pretty Tony, Shannon, Jenny Burton, C-Bank, Twilight 22, Mantronix, Run DMC, etc, etc. All that fly stuff from back then which of course was the new shit out back then. Anything that made you get up & boogie your ass off.

Tell the Madclout viewers what 80's bboy life was about.
Back then to be a bboy around my way was like being a king. If you was fly and was fresh on the dance floor you got all the girls...all the juice. It was fresh cause you had this madclout like you was a superstar..a true ghetto celebrity. We all had this aura about us. Bboys was running shit without a doubt. The attitude...you had to have mad attitude, be cocky, possess mad character & of course dress & look fly. Rock those fly Lee jeans & jackets with a piece on it, Cazals, adidas, Pumas, Kangols, name plates & name belt buckles. It was all so fresh. There was nothing like it .

How long have you been dancing now?
Almost 21 years now....don't get me wrong, as far as poppin' & straight up bboyin' I stopped by late 86. The scene had died out by mid to late 85 & unfortunately you had to grow with the times. People used to make fun & laugh at us that were still trying to keep it alive. Late 85 was a very rough time for us. Those of us who were hardcore bboys then did the only natural thing for us to turn our energy into—we started gang banging. Times was crazy!!

Were you involved in other elements of hip hop?
Yeah diffinetly. 1st and foremost, I've also been doing graffiti since 82. My 1st crew was The Mellow Boys which I started with my cousin Dash 167, also my boys Buff, Red, and Dizzy Dee. Then I became an original member of TNSBcrew, JFK, and for the past few years I've had the honor to have been put down with FC, IBM, TC5, and FBA crew. These are the cats that myself as a kid looked up to.

What crews have you battled-past to present-that you feel gave you a run for your money?
Most of my battles back then were 1 on 1s becuz I used to pop on the solo tip. My only crew affiliation back then was with BBC (Breakers Beyond Control) a breakin crew ...I was like their poppin' hired gun(lol). Not until 85 did I actually start an actual poppin crew with my partner Tito, and my then girlfriend Shmoo but by that time alot of the scene was pretty much dead. As far as now is concerned, in 97 myself ,Sero, & Cuba formed the Almighty Deadly Venoms and we've been roastin' every one that has stepped to us. Many niggus don't like us cuz they think that we're mad cocky but they don't understand that that's just how it was back in the days. We ain't trying to be down with everybody & their mother..fuck that friendly bullshit. These sucka niggus nowadays would have never survived in the 80s with their faggot cry baby attitude and their bitin. It's a damn shame how these cats have become carbon copies of each other but..ohh welll that's cool, in the mean time the Venoms will keep burnin niggus left & right.

How do you feel about the longevity of Bboys & hip hop?
There has to be more originality...I've seen some bad ass cats out there but you could count'em with your two hands. Niggus think that it's all about power moves & flips forgetting the fact that 1st & foremost it's a dance so before you get to do all those incredible stunts you must get back to the basics not jump from step A to step Y & Z. To all these video bandits, if you HAVE to bite then bite from niggus like Kenny (Ken Swift) or Fliprock or Icey Ice, cats that have that beautiful thing called style.
